Israel to bring 65,000 foreign workers to replace Palestinians

The spokesperson for Israel’s housing and construction industry has said that in weeks to come, they are hoping to bring 65,000 foreign workers from Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka and India.

It comes after there has been a huge labour shortage across several sectors within Israel, specifically construction.

Before October 7, you had 72,000 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank working in construction.

The Israeli government has said that in the last four months, half of those projects have been stalled as the economy continues to take hit after hit.

Back in December, it was reported that the Israeli prime minister was ready to bring back the Palestinian workers because of how much the Israeli economy was suffering.

But Netanyahu didn’t have a majority for that plan in his cabinet and the vote was pushed off several times until, finally, it was decided that they wouldn’t. But this is going to be an extremely costly measure for Israel moving forward.
